Limestone Coast

SA's Limestone Coast is halfway between Adelaide and Melbourne and is named after the rock that provides a natural filter for its vineyards. The limestone also gives the region its unique terra-rossa soil of the Coonawarra, which produces some of the world's best red wines. You little ripper!

Hit the water and you'll discover the lagoons, dunes and wetlands of the Coorong. It's less than 3 kilometres wide and is where the Murray River meets the sea. This is also a sacred Aboriginal place of tranquility and home to the world's largest breeding colony of Australian pelicans and an occasional home for a bucket load of birds during migration. Don't forget the camera!

Another "must see" is the truly gob-smacking Blue Lake at Mt Gambier. It is just that …. Very, very blue!!! What the????
